I am a creator, I am a friend, I am a student, I am a daugher, an artist. I am everything and nothing, but you can call me Nicole Chantal. I am currently on the process of discovering my limits, therefore I apologise in advance for the vague description about myself, for now all that I know is that I can be whatever I need or want to be.
Nevertheless, there is something I can state about me, I am a firm beliver that life is absurd and meaningless. Yes, this statment can sound negative, but bear in mind that this means we can give our own meaning to life. We have been blessed and cursed with the power to imagen, and imagination has brought us societies, norms, traditions, art, culture as a whole! Together we have build an imaginary world, filled with symbols and representations. So, if we have constructed our world, we can construct our own reality too, we can own our existance. We can choose to believe, be and do whatever one desires to. I describe our world as partially imaginary becasue ideas only exist in our imagination, others have to acknowledge them and believe in them for them to be. Even if globalization is moving us towards a unification, we are all subjective! This implies there can not be a higher truth, as every single being has a unique experience. Everyone has a voice, and I am certain to use mine to render the absurdity visible!
The absurd made me free.
I use many different mediums, such as photography, video, instalation, and performance. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
Most of my inspiration comes from my own life experiences, out of curiosity to understand. I am usually drawn to research concepts from a philosphical, psychological and/or historical point of view. I am caught by the nature of life and it's diverse interpretations. Within my practice I reaserch themes such as feminism, existentialism, and absurdism.
